Why Traffic is Important To A Website

In the process of learning to build an online business or some people called it internet entrepreneurship, we will come across with what most bloggers are talking about, TRAFFIC. Traffic craze will make any blogger to do anything to promote their blog or website. However, there are some small percentage of bloggers don't mind about how much traffic came in. They just love to blog as much as they wanted to.

What is Traffic? Why is it important? These are some of the questions that many new bloggers have in mind. New bloggers have different things in mind. They concentrate on how to build the website first without minding on other things such as the content, traffic, design and so on.

It is a normal thing if bloggers don't think about traffic at first but don't make it a habit in the next blog project. That is why blogging gurus tell people to make a plan before started blogging. Make a plan starting from scrap until when the website is done and running. Then, concentrate on how to maintain the website.

Traffic are the people who come or visitors to a website. It has the same concept as the physical store. Imagine that your website or blog just like a supermarket. If nobody comes to your store, that means no buyer. The only difference is, a website or a blog receive people from the internet, virtually. That is why traffic is important. Remember that no traffic, no buyer.

Not all traffic are good or have the QUALITY (blogging language). Traffic comes from many parts in the internet such as the search engine, social website, forum, email and so on. It depends on how people promote their website. Now you have the idea why some websites have huge traffic but have small income.

What a website really need is quality traffic. Now comes the question, what is quality traffic? A simple answer is hungry buyers. These kind of people need the things that you sell. They not only come to do window shopping. Well, window shopping is not a bad thing because who knows that these people will turn to customers.

In some websites, they teach people to filter their traffic. That means, they are trying to avoid bad traffic to their website. In this case, they already have a huge amount of traffic everyday and they need to remove some of them. Why are they doing this? Because bad traffic also can mean that they are spammers, bots, thieves and many others that can ruin a website, especially their business.

If you have a business online and have a small amount of traffic each day, consider to build a blog. Blog are very good for SEO (search engine optimization) because it contain articles. People use words to search on the search engine and articles contains words, so many of them. You can get free traffic to your website using a blog.

In other ways, if you have the budget, you can buy traffic to your website. One popular way to do this is through PPC (pay per click) advertisements like Google Adword. But there are other ways you can do to buy traffic. You can choose any other ways to suit your taste.

Conclusion
No matter what kind of business people do on the internet, traffic is very important. No matter how, free or paid, get more traffic to your website. Traffic will increase sales on your page. If the traffic is not interested, they can tell their friends to visit your website. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool because people trust their friend more than your website.

Must-Have Blogging Products

To start blogging, you must at least learn the basics. I started to love blogging by reading other people's blog. I like to read on other people's opinion and their strategy according to their topic. By reading, you will come out with your own opinion. This personal opinion is what I want other people to know about.

Blogging can create positive and negative controversies. That is why bloggers love to write about controversies. They sees this as a quick way to gain readers. If the topic is controversial enough, it will create a massive comment on their comment box. The best way is to create positive controversies. Negative controversies can get you in trouble or even in jail.

If you want to start a blog but you don't know where, you can start by reading other people's blog on how to start blogging and download their free report (usually PDF file). This is the first step. Almost all blogging gurus will tell you the same thing and they are right. Listen to their advice. Even if you find thousands of blogs about blogging, it will go the same way and there are no other way.

I continue to write on this blog because of my frustration on how the blogging gurus teach others to blog. It is not that they are wrong but at least tell the newbies specifically what did they mean. I mostly don't understand what the blogging gurus are trying to say. In the end, I create my own personal notes here, in this blog, from what I had learn and I share it with everyone.

Personally, I have three websites that I like when I want to start blogging. They are Problogger.net (their blog), Yaro Starak's Entrepreneurs-Journey.com and Alan Tan's Bloggingsutra.com (download PDF). These websites will help you with blogging and gives you tips on how to blog. P.S I don't have any personal gain or personal connection introducing these websites.

Then, I bought a few books. I love to read. Reading can give knowledge and also some ideas for your next blog post. These are the books I recommend for further reading and to give you some ideas on how to start blogging.

After gaining all the informations you need, consider on which web hosting service you like to prefer. You can use free web hosting like Blogger.com or Wordpress.org like what I use here. It is free of course but the negative effect is, it doesn't look professional.

If you are serious about blogging and want make a living with it, I recommend you to use Hostgator.com. It is cheap and have many satisfied customers. If you have been using another web hosting service before and having problems, switch to Hostgator.

10 Reasons Why You Should Continue Blogging

There are many bloggers and newbie bloggers that blogs for money. Lets face it, who doesn't? But the way they are making it are wrong. The way they think is wrong so, they will do it the wrong way. I repeat this again, DON'T BLOG JUST FOR MONEY. If you do, that is going to be the downfall of your blogging career.

Many bloggers are frustrated when they know blogging is not a get-rich-quick scheme and eventually they will stop blogging and close down their blog. Blogging is a business (read it here). It is a part of online business. When starting a business, don't expect everyone will come at the first day of the opening.

Take a look at a physical shop for example and treat your website like one. A business is never easy at first. This goes the same with blogs. Blogs can take up from six months to a year for it is to be known. And it will take even longer for free web hosting platform like blogger.com or wordpress. With a long wait and a lot of patience, everything will go smoothly.

Whatever the reasons are, do not stop blogging. If you think blogging is not the kind of thing for you, you should not start one at the first place. You can go and read other people's blog and watch how they make money while you sit down and do nothing. If you have a blog or going to start one, read the ten reasons why you should continue to blog when you feel like giving up.

Image: source
Reason #1 Blogging is fun - How blogging is fun? Blog is a place for bloggers to state their mind. In the early years of blogging, bloggers write about almost everything related to them. Blogger use a blog like a diary. I am sure that if you want to start a blog, you will have something in mind to share with everybody.

Reason #2 Make new friends - In the blogging world, friends are actually business partners. Imagine having business partners from all around the world. How bad it could be? With a physical store, you only meet business partners locally. What even better is, you don't have to drive to see them or spend on expensive plane ticket.

Reason #3 Earn real money - Blogging can take years to become really developed. By being developed, it mean that to be known to many visitors. When the blog is well-known, you can reap what you sow. Promoting is not that hard anymore when people knows about you. At this time, you will see increment in your income.

Reason #4 Learn something new - Blogging keeps you online. Besides updating your own blog, you can read or comment on someone else's blog. You will stumble with something new each time you visit other blogs and you will gain some knowledge. I learn new techniques in blogging by doing this.

Reason #5 Being up-to-date - Bloggers follow each other's blog, Twitter account or Facebook account. Some of the blog you follow sometimes contain new update about current issues. You will not be left out again about the information that everyone keeps telling you about. How many times that you are clueless if your friends are talking about a newly launch cell phones?

Reason #6 Get to be well-known - When you own a blog, people will be curious about the blogger. Usually, bloggers put their information on their blogs. By this way, people will get to know you more. If you have a few friends but you really want to be known and heard, blogging is your chance. Some bloggers are not popular in real life but a superstar in the blogging world.

Reason #7 Get to be heard - It is hard for you to voice your opinion in a certain topic unless you are a politician, a speaker, a lecturer or an artist. Blog is a platform for you to do this. You can let anyone read about your opinion, views or strategy by reading your blog. That is why some bloggers loves to post controversial articles especially about politics. One popular example is Wikileaks.org by Julian Assange.

Reason #8 Learn to operate a business - As being said before, blogging is a business. Making friends in blogging is making business partners. By blogging, you can sell ad space, joining an affiliate program or selling your own product on your blog. Business strategies are always changing day-by-day and you are learning about it whether you are realizing it or not.

Reason #9 Having unlimited customers - Owning a physical store will make you have local customers but owning a blog will make you have unlimited customers around the world. Talking about the power of leverage. Other people also can put ads on your blog but you cannot do this on Tesco.

Reason #10 Practise makes perfect - For first time bloggers, don't expect to be perfect because nobody does. When you keep on blogging, your are practising your skills, not only on writing but also technology. Its like forcing yourself to the gym. You really don't want to do it but it is good for you and you have to do it. For someone who doesn't use English for their mother tongue, well, blogging can help you to improve your English.

Conclusion
There is no 'the right way' for blogging. It doesn't even have a format. When you have something in mind, put it in your blog, in your own style. Forget about the money and other stuffs that are not relevant. Do it for passion. If you don't love what you do, you will not achieve anything. You want to get better in blogging don't you? Start your engine now.

A newbie blogger’s dilemma: free or paid domain name

Are you still wondering what domain to choose? If your answer is yes, you can keep on reading. I am going to tell you how to get started with your blog. That is about the domain of course. What kind of domain would you like to choose? I will tell you a very different story from what you heard or read from any mentor or any blog guru before.

Throughout these many years, I have read thousands of blogs. Many still exist and many also don’t. Some bloggers blog for fun and some are serious to make money online and bloggers also blog about so many topics that interest them. What sadden me is a good blog with good or unique articles suddenly give up and they do not update their blog anymore. I bet you are too because as a reader and follower, you still want to read more from the author of the blog.

I have seen blogs that are not updated for a few years and it still exist especially those who are using free domain like BlogSpot or Wordpress. It is kind of hard for a website with paid domain name to exist freely on the internet. If you don't pay the hosting company, they will shut down your website meanwhile the free domain will exist freely no matter if you update them or not.

As a new blogger, have you prepared your topic? If yes, that is very good. If not, don't give up searching for a good niche topic. Surprisingly if you ask any internet enthusiasts, almost all of them want to be a blogger. Everybody seems so energetic and they all want to write about something. Their energy and spirit are like roaring thunder and nothing seems to work to stop them from starting a blog.

I know this because I was one of them. Back in 2004, I created a blog called Tattoo Removal. If I am not mistaken, I only can write for two months. Some of the articles are taken from Ezine Articles if I am too lazy to write. It is not against the copyright rules anyway because I mentioned the article owner’s name and also from where I took the articles. After just two months, I left the blog in the dark.

It was quite a funny experience when I think back about starting the blog back then. But it was a valuable lesson that I learnt, very valuable. From that experience, I can tell all of you newbies out there about my experience and hoping that you will not make the same mistake like me.

Now is the part where you will ask me, “Enough with your sentimental story, tell me should I choose paid or free domain name?” I will reply you saying “you remind me of my old self”. Remember the story about energy and spirit like the roaring thunder? Stay cool if you want to learn something. There is a reason about my story and the domain name.

I was a complete newbie when I was building my blog. With little knowledge and no experience, I start up the blog. I choose a free domain that is the BlogSpot. The reason I want to start the blog was that I learnt that we can make money from blogging. So, I signed up with Google AdSense and I put up Google ads on the free blog hoping that visitors will come and click on the ads.

The first few articles were from Ezine because I want readers have something to read on my blog. I was so happy that my tears almost flow to see that I had started a blog and I was on the internet, live! I still can imagine that feeling until now. It was like being a celebrity in one day. I will bet all my savings that you will feel the same way if you were me.

After all the excitement, something goes terribly wrong. The first week, I still don’t have visitors. Not even one. I said to myself that it’s ok because my blog is still new. I was still energetic to write and post to my blog and keep it up to date. I only can keep this up until two months. I was so frustrated that I only have a few visitors to my blog.

After two months, I left the blog alone. I did not post anything or update anything. The blog just sits there waiting for the internet age to end, if it is going to end. Then, I stop blogging. I never read or say anything about blogging anymore. I was so broken-hearted that I thought to myself that I will never blog again.

In my story, can you tell what is wrong? Why don't the blog succeed or at least have its followers or visitors? Does the topic is not unique enough? Is it the free domain name that is causing the blog to be untrusted? I had the same questions in my head for a few years. At that time, it was hard to learn about blogging especially if you are a newbie. Not everyone have the blogging knowledge to share.

There is nothing wrong with the blog even though it is a free domain. Some people still blogs in a free domain until today and have their own loyal readers. A free domain doesn’t mean that the information is not reliable.  I have read free domain blogs where the author or owner is a doctor, a lawyer or any other professional people. Some of them even give advice for free on their blog according to their specialty.

As a future blogger, let me ask you something, what does a blog contain? I guess many of you know the answer that is articles. Blog contain unique articles and it is best when the article belongs to you. People or readers love information. When you give the right information to the right person, your blog will be filled with traffic.

You see here, it doesn't matter if the blog use paid or free domain. They both contain the same thing, articles. The difference is the domain name itself. The paid domain looks cool and the free domain looks cheap because it contains .blogspot or .wordpress. Let us take a look at other differences.

Paid domain name
-          You pay for your domain name
-          You have total control of the content on your website
-          Ends with .com, .net, .org or .info
-          Usually more trusted source
-          More reliable for long-term use
-          Can be flipped or sold

Free domain name
-          You don't have to pay for it (free)
-          You don't have control of your website. It relies to the policy of the free web hosting company that can change whenever they want.
-          Contain the web hosting company name in the domain name (.blogspot, .wordpress etc.)
-          Many people don't trust a free hosting website
-          Cannot be flipped or sold

If you are a complete newbie and never had the experience in blogging, my advice to you is to use the free domain name. Why? It is to see whether you really are into blogging or not. Most people are eager to start blogging by reading other people’s testimonials on how they became successful in their blogging career. This doesn't mean that blogging is right for you too.

Free domain name means you don't have to pay for it. You just register your domain and start blogging. See how far you will go. Let’s face it, you are not a celebrity and no one knows you on the internet. Forcing your family members as your blog followers is not going to work. What you really need is quality traffic coming to your blog.

If you have the skills in writing quality content and have the persistence to keep on writing and updating your blog, wait at least for four to six months. Some blogs are slow in pick up by the search engine. See whether you have followers on your blog and watch the traffic daily. If the figures are growing, congratulations, you are on the right track. Prepare to purchase a commercial domain name.

It is a different story if you are popular on the internet or in some group. Some people are a living celebrity on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or any other social network. If you are among these people, you can directly purchase a paid or commercial domain name. This is because you already have your own followers who share the same interest with you.

With this kind of popularity, you can easily ask your friends to visit your blog. These friends are quality traffic because they have the same interest as you are. Word of mouth is the best way to promote your blog. Traffic will easily goes up this way. Consider yourself lucky if you are hanging around with the people with the same interest and topic as you.

Conclusions
Many people are confused because of other people’s successful stories and they also want to become successful. This goes the same with blogging. Many people start a blog every day but not all of the people are able to maintain the blog. I agree that blogging is a business and you can make a living with it. This article explains what to do if you are a ‘victim’ to testimonials you read on books or the internet.

Like any other business, blogging is not for everyone. Even physical business owners sometime pay other people to create a blog for them. Remember that only a blogger blogs. I didn't mean to stop you from blogging. You are free to experience blogging for yourself and see if you are into it. Who knows blogging is the right thing for you to do.

Design, Creativity and Innovation of a Blog

As we all know, blog is very popular and a common tool used by internet users. People from primary school children to large organization use blog to communicate with other internet users on certain topics. Blog can contain everyday activities like a traditional diary for an individual to promotional tool by an organization. Blog is short for web log. It can be a paid service or free such as blogger.com as what you are reading here.

Every day throughout the year, many internet enthusiasts created their blog and tried to maintain it as long as they can. Unfortunately, many of the blogs failed miserably and lost their readers. To maintain a blog, you should look at the design, creativity and innovation and how to apply them in a regular basis.

Image: Source

Design

In real life, we say ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ but this cannot be applied in blogs. In creating a blog, people do judge your blog design. Imagine talking to two different people, one looks homeless and the other looks like an executive. Which one are you going to ask about investment advice? That is how important the blog design is. As humans, we are attracted to beautiful designs.

Beautiful design is important but do not overdo it. Do not fill every empty space on your blog. Some people tend to put banners, advertisements, messages and whatever to every empty space in their blog. This can make it difficult to find stuffs in your blog. Remember, time is money to some people. Your blog’s visitors will not read everything in your blog to find the stuffs that they need. Returning visitors usually want to find something in your blog because they already know how your blog looks like and the content. Make it easy for them. Put your search box where it is easy to find.

Make your text readable. Do not use unnecessary text fonts and colors that are not contrast with the background. This will cause reading your blog content looks like a trip to hell. Create paragraph after a few lines and add subheadings.

Do not forget to create your logo. Logo is important to a blog. It is a trademark. Do not get depress in trying to create one. You can use text to create your logo. There is no need to spend a dime. A fancy logo is not worth it if the content of the blog is crap.

Creativity

It is best to start a controversy but do not cross the line. Readers love controversies. If the topic is just right, you can be a star in just one night. Just write something that what people want to read about. It is also important to organize your idea for your blog. Know about an interesting topic and who your audiences are.

Sometimes it is hard at the beginning. Read and learn more about your topic. Be an expert to it. Once you are familiar with it, ideas will flow naturally. Readers like to read about fresh ideas and gain knowledge from it. Keep your ideas up to date.

Remember to not giving up on your blog. Keep on writing and posting. No one creates a blog with nothing to say. Be creative in your writing. If you cannot write, you can hire a writer to write for you. There are many freelance writers who will write for you for a small fee.

Regular update will draw traffic to your blog but first time visitor will not buy anything from your blog. Do not even try to sell anything to first time visitors. Make a good relationship with them to make them coming back. You can do this by inviting them to subscribe to your RSS (Rich Site Summary) feed, sign up for email list, subscribe your blog post or be a fan on social network.

The next thing is communicate with your readers. Do some poll questions, contest and giving freebies. In this way, you will communicate with your readers and they also can give their opinion. Be creative in asking questions to draw the visitor’s attention. But make sure the questions are related to your blog topic.

Change your blog template regularly especially during festive season and special occasions. This will make a good impression to your blog and visitors will see that you are up to date and sensitive with everyday activities.

Do not forget to be creative with the SEO (Search Engine Optimization). ‘Trick’ the SEO to make your blog on top of the search list. Put keywords on your blog headlines and unique title tags.

Innovative

Creating a blog that is different from others is quite important but avoid using a never-seen-before design. It is good to be innovative but never-seen-before design will confused the readers. Do not waste other people’s time looking at the design. Make the visitors know clearly what is your blog is about and who are the audience.

When writing about controversies, make sure the idea is new but reliable. Do not write anything that is not true. You can lose a lot of visitors if they find out that you are writing crap or worse you can end up facing a lawsuit. Being innovative in blog writing is a very good thing but do not cross the line just for asking attention for a day.

Blog design is like a face to your blog. Do not change it regularly. The best thing to do, do not try to change it. People love the way it is because they are used to it. However, if your blog looks lame, it is a different story. The content comes first then the design.

Start now!

What are you waiting for? Start your own blog and have fun. Blogging is a fun thing to do. If you do not know where to start, ask a person who knows about blogging or search in the internet on how to create a blog account. Do not give up on your blog. Who knows that your informative blog can be an ATM machine for you. Make your blog successful or die trying.
